Common questions
Before your first class
What is line dancing?
Line dancing brings people together in rows to learn and dance the same sequence of steps. We dance to a wide range of music, and you do not need a partner.
Do I need any experience?
No experience is needed for Absolute Beginners Level 3. You will learn the basic steps and terminology as you practise the dances.
Why are there three Absolute Beginners classes?
Each class started at a different time and has progressed at its own pace. Level 3 started in July 2026 and is the starting point for new dancers. Level 2 started in February 2026, and Level 1 in September 2025. Ask Maddison if you need help choosing a class.
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes that let you move freely. Closed-in shoes are strongly recommended; joggers or dance shoes are suitable. Cowboy boots are optional. Club t-shirts, singlets, polos and hoodies are also available.
What does it cost?
$15 for a one-hour class, $16 for a 2–2.5 hour class, cash at the door. Pay as you go, with no term fees. Class passes can be purchased with cash. Half price for dancers under 16.
What if I forget the dance by next week?
Ask your instructor for the name of the dance and the choreographer. Every class has its own playlist on BootStepper, with step sheets and music so you can practise at home. The same lists are in our class playlists document. Monthly lists of dances taught are also posted on the Illawarra Country Bootscooters Facebook page.
Where do I park?
Please park in the Kanahooka Point Car Park. To comply with our development approval there is no parking in Rushton Drive.
Do I need to book?
Regular classes do not require booking or a term commitment. Any special registration requirements for a new beginner intake will be listed in the timetable.
Is there anything during the day?
Yes. Morning classes run from 9:30 to 11:30am on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, covering high beginner through to intermediate. See the timetable for the level offered each day.
Who teaches?
Maddison Glover and Ashley Mears teach our classes at The Barn. Karissa Howard is also part of the team as an instructor-in-training.
