Class timetable

Ten classes a week, mornings and evenings, from absolute beginner through to intermediate. Regular classes do not require booking.

Monday3 classes

    Two hours of high improver and low intermediate dances for those ready to develop their technique.

What we are dancing in each class

Every class has its own playlist on BootStepper, with step sheets and music so you can practise at home. The dances we are currently doing in each class, updated by the instructors as new dances are taught.

Never danced before?

Three Absolute Beginners levels

Start with Level 3 if you are new to line dancing. Levels 2 and 1 build on steps learned in earlier classes. Each session is a one-hour Power Hour, with payment per class and no term commitment.

    An introduction to basic steps and terminology for first-time dancers. Also suitable for dancers who joined Level 2 later and want to review earlier material.

    5pm – 6pm

Boot Scoot & Bloom

Did you know we have classes that cater to those with additional needs?

Boot Scoot & Bloom offers welcoming line dancing classes for people with disability, led by Karissa Howard and supported by Illawarra Country Bootscooters. Make friends, enjoy music and learn to dance in a relaxed, inclusive space. No dance experience needed.

Wear comfortable clothes and closed-in shoes, and bring water. Mobility aids are welcome, with water breaks throughout the class.

$15 per class, including a carer or companion

If you need a carer, they must stay for the class and are welcome to dance too.

The Barn at the Illawarra Aquatic Club is a venue dedicated to line dancing, with a sprung dance floor for all our classes and club dances. Access is via Kanahooka Road.

Choose your class level

Use this guide to find a class that suits your experience. If you are unsure, start with the easier class or ask an instructor for advice.

  1. Absolute Beginners

    Never danced a step before? Start here.

    New dancers and those returning to the basics after a break. No partner or dance experience is needed. Start at Level 3; Levels 2 and 1 build on material taught in earlier classes.

    • The basic steps every line dance is built from — grapevines, shuffles, pivots and coaster steps
    • The terminology instructors use to explain each step
    • Simple dances to build your confidence
    • How to find the beat and start on the right foot

  2. Beginner

    Build on the basics and learn more dances.

    Dancers who know the core steps and want to learn more dances at a steady pace. High Beginner classes introduce more challenging combinations.

    • A steadily growing list of beginner dances across a range of music
    • Turns of a quarter and a half, and how to keep your place in the room
    • Tags and restarts introduced gently, one at a time
    • Styling and upper-body movement

  3. Improver

    Faster teaching, longer dances, more musicality.

    Dancers who learn beginner dances confidently and are ready for more complex choreography.

    • 32 and 48 count dances with tags, restarts and changes of direction
    • Full turns, syncopations and rolling vines
    • Reading a step sheet so you can learn dances at home
    • Dancing to the phrasing of the music, not just the count

  4. Intermediate

    Technique, timing and the current floor favourites.

    Experienced dancers ready to learn current international choreography and develop their technique.

    • Current intermediate releases, including dances you will see at festivals
    • Cha cha, waltz, nightclub two step and West Coast Swing rhythms
    • Sharper technique — spotting, weight changes and clean footwork
    • Dances taught at a faster pace, with less repetition
